Inclusive Dialogue in Osijek: Youth Discuss Accessible Community Spaces within Youth Placemaking Balkans Project

On 24 February 2026, ISA organised the second Croatian National Youth Structured Dialogue as part of the YPB project, in cooperation with the Centre for Education “Ivan Štark” Osijek, local municipality representatives, active citizens and the Faculty of Kinesiology Osijek (KIFOS).

The dialogue brought together young people, educators, community stakeholders and representatives of civil society to discuss how public and community spaces can become more inclusive and accessible for all young people. Special focus was placed on participation of youth with fewer opportunities and on strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and local communities.

Through an interactive and participatory discussion, participants shared their experiences of using community spaces and explored ways to improve youth involvement in decision-making processes. The inclusive environment of the Ivan Štark Centre enabled open dialogue, encouraging equal participation and exchange of perspectives between youth and stakeholders.

Participants identified key challenges related to accessibility, communication between institutions and youth, and the need for more opportunities for young people to actively contribute to community development. The dialogue also highlighted the importance of cooperation between schools, universities, municipalities and youth organisations in creating supportive environments for youth participation.

The event represents another important step towards building a national youth placemaking network in Croatia, promoting active citizenship and inclusive community development through the placemaking approach.
